05 November, 2006; Elmer & Muriel Throop were assistant coordinators in the very successful Canadian Cancer Society "Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer" at the Oakville Place Mall. More than $21,000 was raised. Our own members Pat Battista and Norma Dalton also participated. 28 October, 2006; Bill Check and his Telco volunteers; Bob & Daphne Excell; Elmer Throop and Bill Hughes were again assisting the Oakville Salvation Army with their annual food drive. In total they contributed 27 hours of community service as well as the use of their vehicles. 15 June, 2006: Lorna Maj continues in the "Spirit of Service", remember the old Bell slogan! Pictured to the right is Carole Daniels of the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital receiving the 6th $500 cheque from Lorna that she has has earned through the Bell "Helping Hands" program.
2 & 3 June, 2006; Joan Gibb, one of our members and a long time volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, enlisted our Community Service group to assist with the Society's, Oakville Branch, annual "Relay for Life" rally at Appleby College. Bill Check with his crew of Elmer Throop, Stan Beaudette and Tom Brown placed 300 feet of fencing, signs and general labour in support of the event. In total they contributed 25 hours of community service on behalf of our club. "Way to go guys!" 12 April, 2006;
The team of Telco volunteers headed up by Bill Boyer and Bill Hughes. were honoured at an Appreciation Luncheon, hosted by the Mississauga Branch of the Salvation Army, for their help with the annual Christmas Assistance Program.

15 & 22 October, 2005; Seven members and partners gave 55 hours of their time and the use of their vehicles to assist the Oakville Salvation Army with their annual food bank drive. Bob DeForest headed the team of Elmer Throop, Ken Wilford, Doug Kirkwood, Ron Knisley, Kel & Shirley Kaye. Each driver was accompanied by local high school students. This year Salvation Army collection bags were delivered door to door with the pickup being made the following week. Congratulations to Bob and his Team who enjoyed a beautiful sunny Fall day the first week and endured a cold rainy day the second time around. 14 July, 2005
Lorna Has Done it Again! Lorna Maj, on the left, is shown presenting a Bell "Helping Hands" cheque for $250.00 to Luisa Parente of the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. This is the 5th cheque that Lorna has earned through her volunteer work at the hospital bringing her "Helping Hands" total to $2500. 13 July, 2005
Joan Gibb was featured in the Oakville Beaver on the 25th Anniversary of Terry Fox running through Oakville in 1980. The Run was a day late and Joan was instrumental in getting a good turn-out at Sheridan College to cheer Terry on. Joan has been an organizer for the Oakville Terry Fox Run every year since. Joan has been a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society for more than 37 years. Years ago she was one of the Bell Canada Managers on loan to the Oakville United Way Campaign April 05 2005

30 March, 2005 "BELL HEROES" CONGRATULATIONS FRED! Fred Bucknam our AVP Programs was recently honoured at the Bell Heroes Gala held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto on March 30th. Fred was honoured as one of the 125 "Heroes" picked by Bell Canada to celebrate the company's 125th Anniversary on account of his many years of volunteer service. Volunteering with the Burlington Salvation Army, the Distress Centre and assisting the Seniors through his church have been some of his many charitable activities. 16 February, 2005

01 February, 2005 A warm welcome to Bill Check who has volunteered to be our AVP Community Service. Bob DeForest regrets that for health reasons he has decided to give up that position. We all thank Bob for his dedication and the service that he has given to our club and the community.
29 January, 2005 Doug Kirkwood, Ron Knisley, Ken Wilford, Bob Grinton, Elmer Throop (front) repainted the old section of the Oakville Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. In November 2004 they painted the new office space that the Oakville Branch recently moved into.

Bill Hughes and Bill Bowyer successfully headed up a team of Telco Volunteers and partners assessing needs for the Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Program in Mississauga. Ron Knisley and a team of members and partners assisted the Salvation Army with their Christmas Kettle campaign in Oakville. 7 December, 2004 Food donations collected at the Oakville Retiree's annual Christmas Luncheon held at the Le Dome was distributed to the Salvation Army in Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga. 29 November, 2004 Ken Wilford, Ron Knisley, Bob Grinton and Doug Kirkwood completed a painting job in the new section of the Oakville Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. 23 October, 2004 Five members gave 27 hours of their time and the use of their vehicles to assist the Oakville Salvation Army with their fall food drive. Coordinated by Bob DeForest the team included Ron McLean, Elmer Throop, Ken Wilford and Doug Kirkwood. Each driver was accompanied by local high school students who went door to door.
